Real-time supervision of juvenile offenders wearing electronic ankle monitors may soon be available in New Orleans.
That's the word from judges with the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court system who spoke to City Council members on Monday.
Monitor supervision was a high-profile issue last summer after a 15-year-old reportedly killed a French Quarter tour guide while wearing a deactivated ankle monitor.
A judge told the city council's Criminal Justice Committee that Louisiana's Office of Juvenile Justice has almost enough staff to start a real-time monitoring pilot program.
