The state legislature is considering a bill to make it more appealing for the state's high-performing students to go to college in Louisiana.

The bill would add a new award category to the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students, or TOPS.

This new category would be called Excellence, and would include mandatory fees as eligible costs for TOPS to cover.

High school students who score 31 or higher on the ACT would get up to $12,000 to attend a Louisiana public university, starting in the upcoming school year.
