A $4 billion low-carbon ammonia production plant is being built in Donaldsonville.
Governor Jeff Landry made the announcement Tuesday, calling it another win for the state's booming industrial economy.
The plant will be a join venture between CF Industries, the world's largest producer of ammonia, JERA Co., Inc., Japan's largest energy company, and Mitsui & Co., Inc., a global investment company.
“This project demonstrates that Louisiana is continuing to lead the world in innovative energy and manufacturing processes, and I am proud that we are creating even more new, high-paying jobs that will ensure Louisianans will not have to leave the state looking for work,” said Landry.
State economic development officials estimate the project will create 103 direct new permanent jobs with an average salary of $110,000 along with over 300 indirect new jobs. CF Industries' current facility in Donaldsonville employs over 500.
“CF Industries has been an incredible community ally and their continued investment in Ascension is a testament to their commitment to our shared future,” said Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment.
The news comes just two weeks after Hyundai Steel announced it would build a $5 billion manufacturing plant in the same part of Ascension Parish.
