State and local leaders are commenting on Monday's visit from a Metairie native who now sits on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett gave an hour-long speech at Loyola University's College of Law, followed by an appearance at the US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

She then took questions and hobnobbed with Louisiana judges and lawyers.

Former Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon called her visit a historic occasion.

Prior to a luncheon at a Bourbon Street restaurant, Archbishop Gregory Aymond gave the opening prayer. He refers to Barrett as a "wonderful woman of faith."
