The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab says it needs at least another $4 million to complete the testing of DNA evidence in New Orleans rape and murder cases.
The lab's representatives gave the figure to the New Orleans City Council on Tuesday.
That's in addition to more than $4 million that the council and state Representative Mandie Landry have already dedicated to the lab.
The extra funds will cover continued DNA processing until NOPD's crime lab opens, which likely won't happen until 2027.
