Several bars and restaurants in the French Quarter plan to close early on Cinco de Mayo as a matter of public safety.
Felipe's Taqueria at Bienville and North Peters will close at 6 p.m. on Cinco de Mayo. The owner says at least five businesses on a two-block stretch of Bienville Street are joining him in the early closure, but he didn't say which ones.
During last year's Cinco de Mayo, a man was shot and killed in that area of Bienville.
Police say the suspect opened fire near Ryan's Pub and was soon arrested at a strip club on Bourbon Street.
