A bill before the state legislature would designate a popular Cajun holiday story as Louisiana's official Christmas children's book.

Cajun Night Before Christmas, written by J.B. Kling Jr. and illustrated by James Rice, was published in 1973.

It presents a Cajun version of The Night Before Christmas that generations of south Louisiana residents have grown up with.

Representative Annie Spell, a Lafayette Republican, introduced House Bill 273 to give the story official state recognition.
