Coast Guard Calls In Federal Help To Deal With Plaquemines Parish Oil Leak

The Coast Guard is calling in federal help to deal with an oil leak from an old well in Plaquemines Parish.

A Coast Guard spokesman says the well was capped more than ten years ago, and it's not known why it broke open in the past few days.

They added the goal right now is to stop the flow and clean up the mess.

Crews are working night and day to plug the leak, so far without success, because shutting off an old well can be difficult.
