Former Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards reportedly may be considering a run for the U.S. Senate in 2026.

The New York Times says Edwards met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to discuss a possible challenge to Republican Senator Bill Cassidy.

Edwards reportedly told Schumer to get back to him in August.

Cassidy is running for re-election, but he voted to impeach President Donald Trump, which may hurt him among Republicans.

State Treasurer John Fleming is another Republican who plans to run for the seat.
