U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy is backing legislation that would help victims of Social Security fraud to get faster assistance.
The Louisiana Republican says the bill would bring relief by streamlining the process involved in recovering losses.
The Better Business Bureau says the best protection is still prevention.
Start by never sharing personal information such as your Social Security number, banking information, or passwords with anybody you don't know and trust.
Also, don't answer unsolicited messages supposedly from banks or the government.
