Social Security beneficiaries will experience a delay in receiving their payments this May, with checks arriving later than usual. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has scheduled payments for Wednesday (May 14), Wednesday (May 21), and Wednesday (May 28), depending on the beneficiary's birthdate. Those born between the 1st and 10th will receive their payments on the 14th, while those born between the 11th and 20th will be paid on the 21st. Individuals born after the 20th will see their payments on the 28th. This schedule makes May's payments the latest of 2025.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive two payments this month. The May payment was issued on May 1, and the June payment is scheduled for May 30, due to June 1 falling on a weekend. Approximately 7.4 million Americans receive SSI benefits, with about one-third also receiving Social Security benefits. This results in three payments for those receiving both benefits.
The SSA's staggered payment system helps manage the high volume of payments, avoiding system overloads. However, if a beneficiary does not receive their payment on the expected date, the SSA advises waiting three business days before contacting their bank or the SSA directly.
