The Louisiana Legislature is now involved in the national debate over "ultra-processed" foods.

Senate Bill 117 bans ultra-processed foods in public schools as a means of combating childhood obesity. The Senate has passed the bill, and the House Education Committee discussed it on Wednesday.

The bill provides exceptions for vending machines, concessions, and anything that parents allow their kids to take to school. It also wouldn't apply to tailgates, after-school parties, or similar events.
