A man was arrested after a car collided with pedestrians during Liverpool Football Club's victory parade on Monday (May 26) in Liverpool city center. Merseyside Police confirmed the arrest of a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area, though it is unclear if he was the driver. The incident occurred on Water Street, where several police cars and ambulances, including an air ambulance, responded to the scene.

According to a statement by Merseyside Police, the car stopped at the scene, and the man was detained. No information on the number of injuries has been provided. Liverpool Football Club expressed their concern, stating, "Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident."\

Eyewitness Harry Rashid described the scene to the UK’s PA Media news agency, saying the car began ramming people just 10 feet away from him. "It was extremely fast," Rashid said. "Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car." Rashid added that the driver stopped momentarily before accelerating again, plowing through the crowd.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the scenes "appalling" and thanked the police and emergency services for their swift response. He urged the public to allow the police the space needed to investigate the incident.
