The LSU AgCenter is trying to do something about the state's enormous population of feral pigs.

There are about 900,000 of the wild pigs in Louisiana, reportedly causing about $94 million worth of agricultural damage every year.

Their numbers are growing rapidly because of their high birth rate.

An LSU AgCenter spokesman says they plan to reduce the number of pigs by poisoning them with dehydrated fish laced with sodium nitrite. But they'll need an experimental use permit from the EPA.
