Entergy New Orleans is overhauling its infrastructure with the goal of protecting the city's power grid from hurricane-force winds.
Phase one of the utility's Accelerated Resilience Plan started Tuesday on General De Gaulle Drive in Algiers.
The new "storm-hardened" power poles are designed to resist Category 4 hurricane winds of up to 140 miles per hour.
The first phase of the $100 million plan involves installing more than 3,000 of the poles citywide.
