A bill to eliminate the 1000-foot gun-free zone around Louisiana schools is awaiting Gov. Jeff Landry's signature.
If the governor signs the bill into law, Louisiana residents 18 and older will be allowed to carry a gun with or without a permit up to a campus property line. Visitors from out of state would be allowed to do so if they have a concealed carry permit.
The new law wouldn't newly empower anybody to carry a gun on school property.
