As of next year, people receiving unemployment benefits in Louisiana will have to complete five work-search actions a week instead of three.

Gov. Jeff Landry signed a new bill into law that raised the requirements.

Louisiana's unemployment benefits are some of the lowest in the nation, topping out at $275 a week, and available only to people laid off without cause.

Benefits formerly lasted 26 weeks, but that's been cut back to 12 to 20 weeks, depending on the rate of unemployment.
