The New Orleans City Council is considering how to handle the bollards and barriers on Bourbon Street moving forward.
In their meeting Wednesday, the Council discussed the current process for bollards and barriers with the New Orleans Police Department, Homeland Security, and French Quarter Management District officials.
The Council discussed having the Department of Public Works or Homeland Security or other city departments deploy the ballards instead of having police do it. The Council is also looking into the possibility of an automated bollard system.
The discussion follows the New Year's Day terror attack that killed 14 people and left 35 injured.
