Louisiana State Police say their Troop NOLA is successfully lowering violent crime rates in the city after a year on the job.
Troop NOLA was launched in March of last year as part of Gov. Jeff Landry's strategy to reduce crime.
Since that time, state troopers assigned to New Orleans have made almost 500 arrests, recovered more than 50 stolen vehicles, seized about 200 guns, and confiscated narcotics.
A recent survey of 800 city residents by the New Orleans Crime Coalition shows 59-percent support for the presence of Troop NOLA.
