Amtrak is out with details on its new Mardi Gras Service between New Orleans and Mobile, Alabama.
It starts August 18 and tickets are on sale now.
The twice-daily Amtrak Mardi Gras Service will depart New Orleans at 7:35 am and 5:31pm, with trains arriving from Mobile to Union Passenger Terminal at 10:13 am and 8:13pm.
In-between the two cities will be stops in Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Amtrak said in a statement that the connection will beef up the Gulf Coast tourism industry, especially for football trips this fall.
“Amtrak’s return to the Gulf Coast has been a long time coming and we’re excited to see passenger rail returning to the Gulf Coast and will continue to be a strong advocate for existing and future Amtrak service in New Orleans," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
Amtrak also operates three long-distance routes out of New Orleans - the Sunset Limited to Los Angeles, the City of New Orleans to Chicago and the Crescent to New York City.
