Longtime NFL safety Tyrann Mathieu is retiring from the league after 12 seasons.

The 33-year-old made the announcement on social media on Tuesday.

Mathieu played for the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, and New Orleans Saints, spending his final three seasons with New Orleans.

The Cardinals selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of LSU after he was dismissed from the university's football program for repeated drug test failures.

The three-time Pro Bowler won a Super Bowl title with the Chiefs in 2019.
