Recipients of SNAP benefits in Louisiana will soon no longer be able to use them to buy sodas, energy drinks, or candy.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins signed a waiver on Monday to prevent the purchases. She signed similar waivers for Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Colorado, and West Virginia.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and several governors joined Rollins for the ceremony.

The changes take effect next year.

Gov. Jeff Landry says the move will be good for the people of Louisiana.
