Louisiana shrimpers are hopeful that President Donald Trump's 25 percent tariff on goods from India will help save their livelihood.

India is one of the world's top shrimp exporters, and their cheaper, farm-raised shrimp undercut the price of Louisiana's product.

A spokesman for the Southern Shrimp Alliance says 93 percent of the shrimp Americans consume is imported, and the cheaper imports are harming shrimpers all along the Gulf Coast.

Shrimpers say the tariff on India will help level the playing field.
