Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will undergo a procedure to repair a ligament injury on his left non-throwing thumb, however, is expected to start in the team's season opener, general manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters on Tuesday (August 12) via ESPN.

"I don't foresee this affecting him long term," Gutekunst said.

Love attempted to play through the injury, having taped up his thumb for Monday's (August 11) practice, before ultimately deciding that the procedure was necessary. Gutekunst told reporters that the procedure was "the best option to him getting back the fastest and feeling the best."

Love suffered the injury during the Packers' 30-10 loss to the New York Jets in their preseason opener last Saturday (August 9), having only played two series. The sixth-year quarterback didn't appear to be limited in Monday's practice, however, switched to his throwing hand for handoff plays as he typically uses his left hand.

"You guys saw him out there [at practice], certainly he was able to function," Gutekunst said via ESPN.

Love threw for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while leading the Packers to a 9-6 record in 15 starts during the 2024 season, having missed two games due to an MCL sprain he suffered in Week 1. Green Bay will host the NFC North Division rival Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field in their 2025 NFL season opener on September 7.
