The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office plans to make repairs and upgrades to the jail after securing $15 million in limited tax bonds.

The sheriff's office says the Louisiana State Bond Commission approved the bonds.

Sheriff Susan Hutson says the funds will be used to upgrade locking systems, install more razor wire, modernize surveillance technology, and fortify the jail's perimeter.

The sheriff's office has already replaced and upgraded locks that were damaged by prisoners. Officials say 360 more new locks are needed.
