Statistics are showing that overall violent crime in New Orleans is still down in 2025 from last year, despite five homicides this week.

The Metropolitan Crime Commission says the number of murders is still down by double-digit percentages from the first eight months of 2024. The same is true for non-fatal shootings, armed robberies, and carjackings.

The Commission says one of the reasons for the decrease is a greater number of arrests by New Orleans police.
