Several Republican-led states are sending hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C.
The governors of West Virginia, South Carolina, Ohio, Mississippi and Louisiana have announced plans to send Guardsmen as part of President Trump's efforts to federally take over law enforcement in the city.
According to a social media post from West Virginia's governor, the efforts will be federally funded, and the state's National Guard will provide "mission-essential" equipment and training.
The president's takeover has prompted push back from residents as well as D.C. lawmakers.
