Tangipahoa Parish officials announced Tuesday they had lifted a mandatory evacuation order in Roseland issued following an explosion and fire at Smitty's Supply last week.
While residents are able to return home, the following road closures are still in effect:
- US 51 from LA 1048 to just south of Smitty's Supply
- LA 10 at the Tangipahoa River bridge
"These closures are necessary to allow emergency response teams and workers to continue containment and recovery operations safely," according to a press release from the parish. Residents will need to show ID to access their homes.
The incident is under investigation by the EPA and OSHA. No injuries were reported.
OSHA records reportedly show several safety violations at the plant in 2020 and 2021.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission set up a mobile response center on Monday to help nearly 400 employees who are now out of a job. Three separate lawsuits have also been filed, at least one by a Roseland resident.
"We are sorry for the uncertainty our neighbors, employees and friends have experienced," read part of a statement released by Smitty's Supply.
