The state Legislature may spend at least $7 million to bring the LIV Golf League tour to New Orleans next summer.

The Senate Finance Committee added the Saudi Arabian golf tournament to the proposed $49 billion state budget on Sunday.

The outlay was at the request of the Louisiana Economic Development Agency, overseen by Gov. Jeff Landry.

The state will spend $2 million to upgrade the Bayou Oaks golf course at New Orleans City Park. Another $5 million will go directly to LIV Golf as a hosting fee.
