The federal Housing and Urban Development Department isn't allowing Mayor LaToya Cantrell and her former bodyguard Jeffrey Vappie to sign federal contracts.

HUD Secretary Scott Turner announced the decision on Wednesday in an X post.

Turner said the move resulted from last month's federal indictments of Cantrell and Vappie for conspiracy, claiming they used taxpayer money to support a personal relationship.

Turner said his actions are based on federal regulations that aim to protect the government from serious harm.
