Survivors of clergy sexual abuse have until late October to approve or reject a proposed settlement with the New Orleans Archdiocese.
The archdiocese has agreed to the $230 million proposal. The survivors' lawyers had opposed a $179 million offer the archdiocese had proposed in May.
The archdiocese filed for bankruptcy in 2020 rather than face each abuse claim as a separate case.
If two-thirds of the survivors approve the proposal, payments could start by next year.
