A Westwego man is in the hospital following an alligator attack last week on the Keyhole Canal near Stella Worley Junior High School.
The attack happened last Thursday morning.
The man was reportedly sitting on the bank looking for turtles when the gator bit him on the leg and seriously injured him.
A friend who witnessed the attack said the alligator didn't bite the man's leg off, but doctors reportedly had to amputate it at the hospital.
Residents with kids in the school say they're worried about the presence of the alligator so close by.
