The head of a New Orleans nonprofit that focuses on public safety says the city's police department could use the help of the National Guard.
Melanie Talia, CEO of the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation, says the Louisiana National Guard could only help the understaffed police force.
The NOPD is hundreds of officers short of its goal of 1,200 officers despite ongoing recruitment efforts.
Talia says the city has relied on outside help in the past, such as the State Police detachment known as Troop NOLA.
