The Louisiana Supreme Court says Attorney General Liz Murrill has the authority to represent the state in post-conviction death penalty cases.
Tuesday's ruling reverses an Orleans Parish trial court order from May that barred the involvement of the Attorney General's office in cases of this nature.
The state's high court concluded that the Louisiana constitution allows the Attorney General to represent the state in these cases, especially with the written consent of a district attorney.
