A new state audit says Louisiana's Board of Ethics is leaving a lot of money on the table.
The Legislative Auditor's Office says the board has failed to collect more than $2.7 million in late fees owed to the state by public officials who haven't submitted various required financial disclosures.
The audit found that the Board of Ethics has neglected for ten years to send past-due debts to the Attorney General's Office for collection on time.
As of the date of the audit, there were more than 3,000 outstanding late fees.
