The federal government shutdown may soon affect Louisiana SNAP recipients.

The Secretary of Agriculture says the food stamp program may run out of money in two weeks.

More than 18 percent of Louisiana residents rely on food stamps, which is six percent higher than the national average.

Mike Manning, CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, says Louisiana ranks third in the nation for SNAP usage and food insecurity.
