State officials are confirming that Louisiana SNAP recipients won't receive their benefits in November because of the ongoing government shutdown.
Governor Jeff Landry says the shutdown is keeping the state from distributing food assistance to families just in time for the holiday season.
"I have been in discussions with other governors across the nation, as well as with our legislative leadership. I am making it a top priority to ensure that seniors, individuals with disabilities, and children who rely on food stamps do not go hungry in Louisiana," Landry said.
The Louisiana Department of Health oversees the state's SNAP program, and said it will let recipients know about the suspended benefits.
Stores are posting signs to notify customers about the situation.
