State lawmakers are proposing the use of funds from the Louisiana Department of Health to temporarily fund SNAP benefits.
On Monday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said federal SNAP benefits won't go out this Saturday because of the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The state Senate will introduce a resolution on Wednesday asking Gov. Jeff Landry to use 150 million health department dollars to pay for SNAP.
A second resolution would ask the federal government to reimburse the state for the money it spends to keep SNAP benefits coming.
