Gov. Jeff Landry is calling on GOP state lawmakers to reject New Orleans' request to take on additional debt.
Landry said in an X post on Tuesday that the city will have to sort out its own financial problems.
Mayor-Elect Helena Moreno and the City Council approved a resolution allowing the city to seek $125 million in short-term revenue bonds.
Landry said Republicans in the state House and Senate should deny the city's debt request.
A legislative auditor found the city has a budget deficit of about $160 million.
