Gov. Jeff Landry says the federal government shutdown may lead to the furloughs of some Louisiana state employees.

More than a million federal workers have been furloughed or forced to work without pay since the shutdown started.

Landry says state workers could be affected because some state positions are paid by federal dollars.

Employees of the state Department of Health and the Louisiana Workforce Commission have already received word of impending furloughs.

The governor says if state workers are sidelined, he'll do what he can to make sure important services aren't disrupted.
