The New Orleans City Council is no longer seeking a $125 million emergency bond loan from the state.
The council withdrew the request on Wednesday because of a demand from Governor Jeff Landry's administration to control the city's finances indefinitely.
Mayor-Elect Helena Moreno and City Council president J.P. Morrell said the need to pay city workers through the end of the year wasn't worth the trouble of handing control of city spending over to a state-appointed administrator who might stick around even after the loan was repaid.
