The Department of Homeland Security is gearing up to send about 250 federal agents to Louisiana.

Similar numbers have been sent this year to cities such as Chicago and Charlotte.

Federal sources say Gregory Bovino will be in charge of the local effort. Bovino led the Border Patrol's New Orleans sector during President Donald Trump's first administration.

More recently, Bovino oversaw the administration's immigration enforcement operations in Chicago.
