Gov. Jeff Landry says he wants to see National Guard troops back in New Orleans before Christmas.

Landry says he spoke with President Trump on Monday morning, and the president said the troops will be in town in two weeks.

This deployment will involve more troops than the security detail sent for last weekend's Bayou Classic.

Landry and Trump both say it'll be part of the president's crackdown on crime by sending federal troops to certain cities and DC.

Landry says the troops will stay in New Orleans through Mardi Gras.
