Hammond Mayor Pete Panepinto says federal immigration officials haven't contacted him about placing an ICE detention facility in the city.
Panepinto made the announcement on Monday in response to a recent report by the Washington Post that named Hammond as a possible location for a large ICE detention center. The report also named Port Allen as a potential site for such a facility.
The mayor says he hasn't heard from ICE, DHS, or any other federal agency about the matter, but he'll say so publicly if they do contact him.
