The New Orleans Police Department is reporting sharp decreases in several categories of violent crime last year.

Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick presented the data on Monday at a press conference.

The NOPD says the number of murders went down three percent in 2025 from 2024, and that's taking into account the 14 killed in the New Year's Day terrorist attack on Bourbon Street.

Kirkpatrick says the number of fatal shootings, armed robberies, and carjackings all declined by double digits in 2025 compared to 2024.
