A consulting company says entirely too many local eateries are falsely claiming that the shrimp on their menus is from Louisiana.

SeaD Consulting spent time last month testing the shrimp at 24 restaurants in Algiers, Westbank Jefferson Parish, and Belle Chasse.

The results showed that eight of the restaurants, a third of those tested, were selling imported shrimp and claiming it was wild-caught domestic product.

The company says the 33 percent failure rate tops both New Orleans and Slidell, which mislabel at a rate of 13 percent.
