City Council Delays Vote On Funding NOPD Retention Bonuses

The New Orleans City Council is delaying until next week a vote on whether to use city payroll reserves to fund police retention bonuses.

Mayor Helena Moreno's office says the vote was deferred from Wednesday's meeting to give the Louisiana Legislative Auditor one more week to crunch the numbers.

Officials say about 784 NOPD officers will receive bonuses ranging from $1,000 to $30,000, depending on years of service and overtime premiums.

The vote may be the first major test of Moreno's new administration.
