Chief Administrative Officer Joe Giarrusso says the city will spend much less this year on Carnival celebrations at Gallier Hall.

Giarrusso is the former council budget chair recently appointed CAO by Mayor Helena Moreno.

He says Mayor LaToya Cantrell's administration spent $240,000 on last year's Mardi Gras expenses at the historic venue.

The city is facing a huge budget deficit, so Giarrusso says this year's Carnival outlay at Gallier Hall will be reduced to $40,000.
