Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve will partially close next month as a major upgrade project gets underway.
The visitor center will close, along with most of the trails at the Barataria Preserve, starting on February 2nd. Visitor services will temporarily move to the visitor center in Lafitte, six miles away.
Hurricane Ida damaged the boardwalks and trails in the preserve in 2021.
Trail improvements are expected to be finished in phases over the next two years. Trails will reopen as each phase is completed.
