A proposed data center in New Orleans East is now up against a ban on data center development in the city.

City Council members voted in a special meeting on Wednesday to impose a one-year moratorium on data center development, with an option to extend.

Local residents were concerned about the environmental impacts of the center and a possible strain on the grid. Supporters of the data center say the council voted against jobs, prosperity, and the future.

MS Solar Grid Data says it will build its facility in another parish.
